The Known Lands
Divided between The Sung Lands in the West and The Five Principalities in the East.
The separating mountains are called The Dividing Range in the Five Principalities, the Sundering Wall in the Sung Lands. Two routes of Crossing are now known, the Northern being first to be discovered but the Southern now more usual.
This page uses the following abbreviations: Three Kinds of North: 3KN; The Sundering Wall: TSW; Vows and Watersheds: VAW; The Skilthorn Congress: SC; Stones and Secrets: SAS; The Silence of Numikès: SN; The Principle of Detachment: PD.

Sung Lands places
Delven: remote village, largely underground, in the far North-East; childhood home of Jerya.
Thrushgill, Stainscomb: villages West of Delven. Between lie the Scorched Plains, with the deserted village of Sollom at their heart.
Carwerid: capital and only true city of the Sung Lands, home to the College of the Dawnsingers.
Kendrigg: site of the main Observatory of the Guild of Dawnsingers.
Bight of Kerrsands: a large bay in the North-West. The town of Kerrsands Bay lies on its Eastern shore.
Kermey: fishing-village in the South-West; birthplace of Railu. Visited by Sumyra in SAS.
Keldash Peak: a prominent peak overlooking the Sung Lands side of the mountains near the terminus of the Southern Crossing. Also Under-Keldash, a refuge and research station run by Dawnsingers.
The Defile: a deep narrow gorge, partly flooded, a major obstacle on the Southern Crossing.
Blawith: village at the start/end of the Southern Crossing.
Varsett; town and river-port about a day’s walk below Blawith.

Five Principalities places
Principality of Denvirran
Lies in the West, bounded by mountains
Denvirran City: capital, home to one of the Five Principalities’ leading Universities.
Drumlenn: town and river-port north of Denvirran city. Start/finish of the Southern Crossing.
Duncal: estate South of Drumlenn, which becomes home to Jerya and Railu after the First Crossing (in TSW and VAW).
Kirwaugh: estate North of Drumlenn, birthplace and home of Hedric
Skilthorn: large estate further North, becomes home to Hedric and Jerya when he inherits the Earldom. Becomes site of first school for girls in the Five Principalities and home to the Skilthorn Congress (TSC).
Skilton: town near Skilthorn
Carinnan: estate and equine stud, childhood home of Mavrys.

Principality of Troquharran
A maritime province in the North-East
Troquharran: a major port-city, home to a University.
Bornbait: a remote island where Kamaril is marooned for a while in SN.

Principality of Sessapont
A maritime province in the East; generally reckoned the richest of the Five. Ruled by a hereditary Prince.
Sessapont: the largest port in the Five Principalities, seat of the Prince, home to a leading University.
The Inner Channel: channel protected by string of offshore islands, the main route between Troquharran and Sessapont.  Sailed by Rodal in TSW.

Principality of Velyadero
A mountain Principality in the South-West.
Velya City: modest compared to Denvirran, Troquharran, or Sessapont. Home to a University with aspirations to higher status, which in SAS becomes the first (and so far only) one in the Five Principalities to admit females.
Velya Lakes: a celebrated area of natural beauty with several glacial lakes and a mountain backdrop.

Buscanya
A maritime and agricultural province in the South East, divided into Archipelago and Peninsulas.
Glimhaven: principal port of the Archipelago, visited by Rodal in TSW.

Beyond Map Area
Ternadey: main port of the Out-Isles, a string of islands a few days sailing from Sessapont.
The Spire Isles: a group of intriguing islands far out in the Eastern Ocean, visited by Jerya, Evisyn, and Harran in PD.
